Partner Highlight: Dogs Matter

In honor of 30 years, AAI is recognizing partner agencies that are also doing great work in the community. The success of one is done in partnership with others. This month, the partner highlight is Dogs Matter.

"Dogs Matter's mission is to provide and promote a safe and healthy environment for dogs of recovering addicts and alcoholics. Drug abuse and addiction have been inextricably linked with HIV/AIDS since the beginning of the epidemic. Many of our clients are HIV positive and that’s why it’s important that Dogs Matter’s program be a part of the services provided for people living with HIV and are struggling with addiction. Having a dog is such a gift, especially for someone in recovery from alcohol and drugs. However, relapse can be a part of recovery and Dogs Matter gives an opportunity for our clients to go into rehab to get healthy while we provide temporary foster care for furry loved ones." - Stephen Knight, Founding Executive Director of Dogs Matter.
